The Viking Parent Volunteer Program is made of parents who volunteer their time to assist VASJ with events, activities and other needs that arise throughout the year. Parent involvement is vital to the growth and increased opportunities for the VASJ community. Even the smallest amount of volunteer time can make a big difference for our students. Where families may need additional tuition assistance, volunteering can help bridge that gap with many activities and/or events qualifying for tuition assistance credits.

To Get Involved

It is preferred that parent volunteers commit to a series of activities and/or events and this is a requirement for those volunteering for tuition credit. Volunteers must complete the Viking Parent Volunteer form to sign up for volunteer events and/or to indicate volunteer activities of interest.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

  • Blood Drive:April 12, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 11:30-2:30 p.m. (one volunteer needed for each shift)
  • Louie Run (Painesville Fairgrounds): Sunday, May 5, 6 a.m. (10 volunteers needed)


Volunteers must complete the Viking Parent Volunteer form to sign up for volunteer events.

For tuition assistance credits, the following regulations apply:

  • Credits will be valued at an "hourly rate" of $10 per hour with the total amount earned being applied directly to the student's tuition account, after each event or activity. There will be no cash value for hours volunteered. The splitting of credits between accounts for an activity will not be permitted. The maximum total amount per student shall not exceed $750 for the 2011-2012 school year.
  • All volunteer hours are subject to verification and, in some circumstances, verification of work performed will be required, i.e., clean-up after events.
  • Volunteers must complete a verification form and have that form signed by the supervising person and/or organization at the time of the activity or event. Forms not completed at the time of the activity or event will not be counted for credit.
  • Volunteers must show up for the hours they have committed to or find a suitable replacement. "No shows" are subject to exclusion from the tuition assistance credit program.
  • Volunteers must be present for the entire time they have committed to work. No credit will be issued in the event the volunteer leaves early and does not complete the responsibilities of the activity or event.
