The VASJ community came together on Friday, April 19, in the gym for a much deserved victory rally in honor of Coach Babe Kwasniak '94 and the boys basketball 2013 Division IV State Champions.
The rally began with Euclid City Council President Kirsten Holzheimer Gail '85 presenting proclamations to the team on behalf of Euclid Mayor Cervenik.
Bill Tilton of Varsity Chalk Talk introduced the coaching staff and state championship team and led a Q&A.
The event concluded with the team photo in front of the championship banner, both of which will hang in the gym.
We say it all the time: The VASJ community is a family. Watching the interactions of the coaches and the teammates, each attributing the victory to each other and being more proud of accomplishing things as a team than as individuals, was a shining example of the family spirit at VASJ.
When asked about how it feels to both be named All-Ohio and also be named a state champion, in the true spirit of the Viking Village, Duane Gibson '13 responded by saying, "Winning the state championship with my team means more to me than any individual accomplishment."
