The Viking Color Guard was inaugurated at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony, November 8th in the gym. Mr. Minadeo, the Color Guard's moderator, said that this was the idea of Freshman Class President Liam Staunton who wanted to organize students to study the ceremonies and traditions of the United States military, especially the honors rendered to our national colors, and serve our community when called. The charter members are Liam Staunton, Jayson Johnson, and Jacob Stauffer, all members of the Class of 2016. Membership is open to the entire school, but standards are high as students will have to maintain a 3.0 GPA, and the highest marks of good conduct and proper uniform to be eligible to carry the colors of our great nation and the those of the military services. For now the Viking Color Guard will use the flags, stands, and ceremonial rifles of Mr. Minadeo's American Legion Post 7 in Wickliffe, but over the next few months he and the students look forward to purchasing a full set of flags and uniforms as funds become available from the Viking family. If you would like to support The Viking Color Guard with a memoriam in Honor of a Veteran please contact Mr. Minadeo at gminadeo@vasj.com.
