Catholic Superintendent Announces Change of Leadership at VASJ

To the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Community,

Ms. Margaret Lyons, Secretary for Education/Superintendent for the Diocese of Cleveland, announced today (Feb. 24th) that on February 28, 2009 there will be a change in leadership at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. Mr. James Sukys will step down as President of the school. On behalf of the Diocese, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Sukys for his dedication and service to the school.

During his term as President, VASJ initiated its first campaign to raise funds for the endowment and tuition assistance along with capital needs. In addition, Mr. Sukys was able to increase the Annual Fund and continued efforts to reconnect alumni of Villa Angela and St. Joseph High Schools with the admirable merger of VASJ.

Reflecting on his time at VASJ, Mr. Sukys said, “It has been a tremendous honor to be the leader of this school. My ‘job’ may be ending, but nobody and no act can extinguish the fire I have inside for VASJ. I wish nothing but the best for the new leadership and pray for a long and prosperous future for the Viking Village.”

Mr. Brian Menard has been named to the position of President to the high school. Mr. Menard has extensive experience in development and admissions in private education and has experience teaching at the elementary, secondary and college levels.

Mr. Menard commented on his new position, “I am honored to join the rich history of the VASJ community and eager to build upon the good work that Mr. Sukys has initiated during his years of service both as VASJ’s president and as a dedicated alumnus. I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for preparing students to be good stewards of God’s kingdom and constructive citizens in our 21st century world.”

The Office of Catholic Education looks forward to supporting Mr. Menard as he works to strengthen the school and increase its effectiveness into the future. We ask you to help us welcome Mr. Menard to this important work for the future of young people.

Sincerely yours,

Margaret Lyons
Secretary for Education/Superintendent
